Psycho by Robert Bloch: Warner Books 1982 edition

Amazing stepback art - artist unknown, alas - from the September 1982 paperback reprint of Bloch's Psycho. Madness never looked so glorious!

Hitchcock gets so much credit for the STORY in the movie Psycho when in fact, he deviated very little from Robert Bloch's suspense thriller.

Hitchcock deserves credit for some exceptional cinematography and directing. But the story is all Bloch.

The story is all Bloch, absolutely - I definitely noted this in my recent review of the novel - but I still have to say Hitch & screenwriter Joseph Stefano made Bates a little more, shall we say, sympathetic. A minor change, but a large one, and a necessary one for a film adaptation.
